Meet our Co-Hosts

Every episode, we team up with an incredible co-host who brings their own wild stories and perspectives to the show. From unexpected encounters to legendary misadventures, these voices shape the bizarre and unforgettable tales we love to share. Meet the adventurers who help make Backcountry Bizarre unique!

Angie is a woman of the woods and mountains. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, she never imagined how deeply she would fall in love with the outdoors until college took her to Michigan’s rugged Upper Peninsula. It was there, surrounded by seemingly endless forest, that she discovered her passion for wild places. Her love for the Rocky Mountains later blossomed while road tripping out west, and she eventually returned for good. Montana stole her heart, with its big sky, velvety foothills, and snow capped peaks. Now based in Missoula, Angie works to manage the land that she loves as a forester, and shares her life with her loyal sidekick, Scrappy – a small dog with a big personality. Whether mountain biking, backpacking, or rafting, Angie thrives on outdoor adventures, especially when the unexpected turns into unforgettable tales.

Angie was Backcountry Bizarre’s first and original co-host! She played a pivotal role in helping establish and develop the show during season one!

Silas Phillips

Silas Phillips was born and raised in the great state of Maine, where his love for the outdoors first took root. In 2014, he ventured west to Montana for college, drawn by the wide-open landscapes and endless opportunities for adventure. Since then, he’s called Montana home, building a life that reflects his passion for nature and community. From trail work in remote backcountry areas to serving as a park ranger, Silas has spent years caring for public lands and connecting others to the beauty of the wild. Whether hiking, biking, skiing, or boating, he and his wife, Rene, love making memories in the great outdoors alongside their friends.

With a deep appreciation for the natural world and a knack for storytelling, Silas brings humor, curiosity, and plenty of trail-tested wisdom to the podcast.

Harrison Schutt

Harrison is a southern boy at heart who traded the rolling hills of the Southeast for the rugged landscapes west of the Mississippi. Drawn to the wild spirit of Montana, he landed in Missoula for school. The granite domes of Lolo Pass truly captured his heart. Like the lichen that clings to those ancient rocks, his connection to the place grew slowly and steadily, eventually inspiring him to co-author 'A Rock Climber’s Guide to Lolo Pass.'

Harrison’s passion for climbing is matched only by his love for the tight-knit community that thrives in these mountain valleys. When he’s not scaling granite walls or scouting new routes, you can find him contributing his craftsmanship around town — just follow the sound of a nail gun. But more often than not, the call of Lolo Pass proves irresistible. Whether bouldering with friends, exploring hidden crags, or simply soaking in the beauty of the wild, Harrison has firmly planted his roots in Montana’s rocky landscapes, forever chasing the next great adventure.

Madeline McGill

Madeline hails from Colorado but spent most of her 20s getting semi-lost in the canyons of southern Utah. She's a non-profit gal, and worked on everything from economic justice campaigns to rural voter outreach, eventually helping launch the Rural Utah Project and building a storytelling program from the ground up. After years of red rock, whitewater, and unreliable service, she founded Western Desk — a consultancy helping small-town groups share big-impact stories. These days, she calls Montana home, where she’s still chasing misadventures with her collie mutt, Melon.
